Life in Crystal Beach follows the ebb and flow of Lake Erie. The sound of the waves against the shore is a constant refrain in this beautiful beach town. It is a lake front community within Fort Erie with a population of 3,800 that swells significantly in the summer months. At its peak in the 1940’s and 1950’s, it was best known for the Crystal Beach Amusement Park, which was one of Ontario’s most popular water front attractions for 100 years. The park welcomed about 20,000 visitors annually throughout the summer months and a steamboat transported tourists between Buffalo and Fort Erie. The Park’s closure in 1989 had a devastating effect on the town’s economy.
Today, the community has been rejuvenated with new, year-round residential and commercial developments, cottage rentals, and a growing number of businesses catering to the town’s summer tourists. Crystal Beach is also experiencing growth in lakefront condominium development such as the Crystal Beach Tennis and Yacht Club as well as growth in newly built detached family homes.
